Babies are precious little blessings who are completely dependent on others for their survival. Dedicated care with safety, warmth, nutrition and love is necessary to a child’s survival, but sadly around the world, so many babies do not experience this. In countries like Uganda, extreme poverty and other unimaginable living conditions sometimes leave parents with the difficult decision of abandoning their babies. While knowing that they cannot care for the child, or that health complications such as HIV will add a burden they cannot bear, parents hope that somebody will find the child and take care of them. Babies are often left on the side of the road or in dustbins.
However, these abandoned babies face severe risks. There is nowhere for the child to go, and they sometimes have complex needs and circumstances such as malnutrition, skin conditions and other undetected illnesses. At Muslim Charity, we’re working to save these babies that are abandoned, to keep them safe and to find the best long-term care for them. Our supported baby care home is ensuring every abandoned child we find and rescue, is given the best start to life.
Rescuing Little Lives: Providing Love, Care and a Brighter Future
At our supported baby care home, we welcome babies that have been abandoned and rescued. Once the local processes have been followed such as reporting to local authorities and the police, the babies are referred to our supported care home. Along with our partners, we ensure that they receive everything they need including milk, clothing, medical attention and a safe space to sleep for as long as necessary. While our supported care home is filled with love and attention, our ultimate goal is the long-term wellbeing and stability of each child. That’s why we begin the process of finding them a permanent, loving home.
Our priority is to ensure that every baby has the opportunity to be raised in a loving and stable environment. When reunification with the mother or family is possible and safe, we offer comprehensive support, including counselling and essential supplies. In cases where it’s not safe or possible to reunite the child with family, we collaborate with local authorities to identify ‘fit parents,’ who are approved to foster children.
Your donations are not just helping us to feed and protect crying babies who have been abandoned, but they are helping us to ensure that these precious babies have the best life possible.
